A lot of small business websites are poorly written. Sorry, but that's a fact. It has been common in the past for people to throw a website online just to have an online presence. Many of these sites were written in a Microsoft program called Frontpage. Thankfully it is no longer sold today, but it's still around and people are still using it to write websites.

The problem with Frontpage is that it essentially wrote web pages for viewing in Internet Explorer. Whilst it is the dominant browser because it ships with Windows, its market share is declining. All web professionals use Firefox and Google's Chrome is making a sizable impact on the browser market. The problem with Frontpage websites, and many other sites built with visual software is that they don't display properly in all browsers. When professionals write websites, they test to make sure that the site is viewable in a range of browsers, not just Internet Explorer.

So, how do you make sure that the visitors to your website can see what you want them to see? Well, it's quite easy really. You use a free service called Browsershots. You simply enter your website address and tick the browsers you want to check and they will return you a screen image of what your website looks like in the browsers you have selected.

Web Site browser views and shots

As you can see from the image, there are a huge number of browsers available for people to use, and they do use them, not just Internet Explorer. Your website needs to be clearly visible in the main browsers at least which include the dreaded IE of course, but also Firefox, Opera and Safari for the Apple computers.

Browser visibility is an important part of small business SEO. If you like, it's the end of the process. There is no point doing everything right with your SEO and generating lots of traffic to your small business website if people can't view it properly. They will simply leave the site.

So make sure your visitors can see the website you want them to see. If your website is not performing properly, then contact Bushsong Web Development to get it fixed.
