This may well be a most unusual post for what could well be deemed an internet marketing site, but I thought I might try an interesting experiment.
You see, I am a member of a Mental Health Committee in the Shire of Loddon where I live. The committee is known as the Healthy Minds Committe and its aims include to educate about and destymatize the issues surrounding mental health. As part of this process, the committee has been actively pursuing the services of Jeff Kennett, ex Premier of the State of Victoria to speak at a local function. This has been achieved after much hard work and negotiation and Mr Kennett is to speak in Wedderburn at the Mechanics Institute on the 15th April with the meeting starting at 6pm.
Jeff Kennett is well known for his work with Beyond Blue, a national Australian organization that promotes understanding of mental health issues and also campaigns for the destygmatizaion of mental health in the community at large. It will be on these issues that Jeff Kennett will be speaking at the Forum.
Wedderburn is a small Victorian community of around 700 people, but this event is directed at everyone living in the Shire which is one of the largest in Victoria. Notices have been placed in local newspapers, but I have a strong belief in the power of the internet, hence this post.
Many times we have heard talk of the six degrees of separation and the world of the net tends to make our world even smaller. Who do you know that lives in the Loddon Shire that might like to attend this event? Or who do you know that might know someone who lives in the Loddon Shire?
Our aim is to fill our local hall and raise awareness of depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, post traumatic stress disorder among other mental health issues. With this area in its thirteenth year of drought, many people will be feeling the effects and it's important that they are aware there are places to go and people to talk to without having any shame.
Can you help raise awareness of this event? Do you know someone who could promote what we are doing here? If so, then please post a comment to this blog post, social bookmark it and email your friends and acquaintances who may know someone in the area who could attend and gain something from this most significant event in our Shire. Let's see the six degrees of separation really go to work for some good in promoting a very worthwhile event that could help a lot of people.
If you do wish to attend, you only have to phone the Loddon Shire on 03 54941200 and book for catering purposes. |
