Online marketing can be a great home business and is ideal for internet marketing newbies. Virtually anyone can do it with access to a computer and the internet. All you need is the will, persistence and dedication to make your dreams become a reality.

Don't believe the sales copy you see from the snake oil salesmen about working 2 hours a day from your yacht. It just isn't going to happen in the short term. Like any business, it takes time to learn the right skills, build your business and establish your credibility.

As a former practising accountant, I would always tell people that it "takes five years to become an overnight success". OK, you might do it a lot quicker, but you might also take a bit longer.

The first thing you need to do in establishing your online business is to get some training. Oh, oh! Here comes the sell! Wrong, I'm not trying to sell you anything in particular. I will ask you a question though. What is your current profession or trade? Where did you learn it? How long did it take you? When you answer these questions honestly, you will realize that you are not going to be making a million in a week from reading an ebook as some people would have you believe.

I hope I'm not pouring cold water on your hopes and expectations, but it's important you know the truth. Far too many people have tried to set up businesses online and offline and spent countless dollars on one program after another expecting to generate their fortune overnight.

So where do you start in your prospective internet marketing home business? First of all you need to realize that you are not going to be an internet marketer. That's just a myth. The reality is that your business will be "selling ebooks", "selling software", "selling information services", or something of that ilk and you will use the internet as a marketing medium.

Whatever you decide, you absolutely MUST have a passion for it. That is the reality. Get your head around what your business is going to be or you will end up jumping from one thing to another when the next juicy sales letter comes along.

The reason that you are not an internet marketer is simply because the internet is not for sale! This is a really important point to grasp. But what you are selling IS for sale ON the internet.
